Our first snow this Winter

I wasn't quite prepared for snow this morning ! Having not caught a weather forecast for the last 48 hours I'd missed the fact that this was on the way. We didn't get any last year in the Chilterns and hence this was an opportunity too good to miss. Since we moved here, I've only had  one previous opportunity to photograph the local landscape in the snow. What I did remember though was to over-expose the shots to make sure the snow came out crisp and white. Cameras are designed to measure 18% grey and when you have a predominately white scene, the resultant image will be more grey than white unless you apply some exposure compensation. I shot this at the bottom of the garden with a little bit of over exposure and got the result I was looking for. Having had my play time with the camera, it was then time to get the kids organised to make snowmen, but more of that in another post.
