Lighting over France
For some time I've wanted to photograph lighting. I've taken all kinds of long exposure images in the past but lightning photography requires being in the right (or wrong) place at the right time. While we were on holiday in Jersey we had glorious weather but on the penultimate night the heat triggered thunderstorms across the water over the French coast. Our chalet overlooked Bouley Bay and we had a grandstand view as the storms rolled in heading north towards the mainland. Fortunately we also had large French Windows opening out onto the balcony, so as the rain started to fall I was able to keep the camera dry inside and fire off a bunch of long exposures in an attempt to catch some lightning. Unfortunately much of the lightning was inland over the French coast so many of the 'strikes' were obscured by the low cloud and dull in comparison with being able to see the lighting strike earth directly. This shot was the best of the bunch with the brightest lightning - next time there's a storm I'll have another go and see if I can capture a more vibrant image.
