Home alone
Last night I was home alone and since the weather was reasonable I had an idea to go and use some studio flash against the evening sky as it got dark. I've got good views over a valley at the bottom of the garden so I figured that could form the backdrop whilst I'd be photographer and model. I've also got electricity available from outbuildings such that I could use the studio lights rather than a battery powered speedlight. I tried a couple of different modifiers but decided not to use umbrellas or a softbox on the single light I used as I quite liked the more edgy light I was getting. All I then needed to do was get a suitable exposure time to record the ambient light from the background, coupled with some slow sync flash just to properly illuminate me at the end of the exposure. Exposures of about 10-20 seconds worked well over the session. These two examples are the best of the crop. A half decent model would improve them even more !
